Tactics Change, So Focus On This

Marketing For The Tribe #012

It doesn't matter how hard you row. It matters which boat you get in.

Success stories of people going from nothing to riches fast catch our attention.

They make them seem like these people are talented, special, or genius.

But here's the real deal.

A big part of their success is not about what they did, but rather about the context in which they operated.

In other words, what vehicle they were in.

Trends exist.

And as marketers, we can either capitalize on them, or being left behind thanks to them.

If we’re careful enough, we can choose the latter.

This post will show you how.

Let’s dive into it.

My name is Nick Tribe and I’m a DJ, marketer, and entrepreneur.

I’ve spent the last few years studying from the most successful marketers & entrepreneurs worldwide.

I’ve read countless books, attended countless courses, and devoured countless pieces of information on marketing and entrepreneurship.

I’m now building a marketing company that starts, grows, and monetize brands leveraging AI, direct response marketing, and sales funnels.

Join me and follow along as I learn, apply, and share marketing insights to build my million-dollar business.

Let’s pretend for a moment that you are a heterosexual man trying to get laid.

You want to learn more about how to get as many women as you can possibly handle.

Pretty ambitious type.

So you buy an info-product on the topic.

You've just joined a class where a guru is teaching guys how to impress girls.

The teacher begins by talking about basic attraction and persuasion principles.

After a while, he spells the true secret.

The cornerstone of this whole training program is something called the ‘boots method’.

He tells a story about how he wore super long boots that nobody else wore.

Because they were so different, girls noticed him and wanted to talk to him about the boots. This gave him chances to talk to many women and eventually seduce some of them. It worked really well for him, so he decided to teach other guys to do the same thing.

And guess what? It worked for them too!

The program’s sales page was full of high energy testimonials of guys that weren’t good with women that now, apparently, have mastered the art of seduction.

Now he's teaching you this trick. He is confident it will help you too.

You are pumped and energetic. For a very good reason.

You are about to apply what you learned in the program.

After a few modules and some knowledge, you’re ready.

You order a pair of weird boots via Amazon, and after a few days you are ready to go out to conquer.

But here's where things get tricky.

As more and more guys catch on to the high boot trend, it becomes less special. You're not the only one who bought the program. You joined years after it was launched.

Suddenly, everyone seems to be wearing them to get attention from girls.

And before you know it, the secret's out.

Almost every guy you see is strutting around in high boots.

Now, standing out just because of your footwear isn't so easy anymore.

You've lost that uniqueness that made you stand apart from the crowd.

You’re confused.

Does the method actually work? Are you making mistakes somewhere?

You turn to the guru for guidance. You ask a question in the program’s group.

“Does this still work? I’m having trouble…”

He advises you to stick to the basics. Don’t overcomplicate it. He says that it’s ok to not be perfect in the beginning and reminds you that this is what worked wonders for him.

You start to have doubts. But since you trust this info, you decide to give it another chance.

But when you try, it feels like a flop…again.

Now you are disillusioned.

You're left feeling like a failure.

The same old tricks just aren't cutting it for you.

Some times passes.

You see a new ad.

A new guru is coming into the market with a different perspective.

He tells you to forget about the old ways and instead dive headfirst into the new trend: dating apps.

According to him, all you need to do is download Tinder, and you'll have plenty of women at your fingertips.

So the cycle begins…again.

Now, here's the meaning of the story: both gurus have a point, but they're also missing something important.

The focus on what truly matters.

Tactics can change over time, but the fundamentals usually stay the same.

The real challenge is figuring out which is which.

Sure, wearing high boots might not work like it used to. But that doesn't mean the whole idea is useless now.

The key is understanding why it worked in the first place.

If you spend some time thinking about it, you can easily see that it wasn't really about the boots.

It was about standing out among other men and catching women's attention.

That’s the principle. That’s the fundamental.

That is what is worth focusing on or paying attention to.

So, the real lesson here is learning how to stand out in a crowd and grab people's attention in a genuine way.

That’s the fundamental that doesn’t change.

High boots or dating apps—those are just tools.

The real magic happens when you know how to make yourself noticeable and interesting to others (in this case, women - but the same principle applies to whatever suits you).

If you learn how to get women’s attention and interest, you will succeed.

If you don’t know how to do that, you will fail.

Boots are irrelevant. Dating apps are irrelevant. Every tactic or tool is irrelevant.

The truth is simpler than you might think.

If you don't know how to get noticed, no app in the world can do it for you.

Now, let's apply this concept to business and marketing.

Imagine you're reading a book from 10-20 years ago, and you come across a strategy that seemed to work like magic back then: offering a free report titled 'How To Double Your Sales' in exchange for an email address.

This is how you get leads, they say. You need to educate your market before you can sell them, they say. You need to be positioned as an authority, they say.

It sounds like a winning formula, right? But hold on a second.

Is the world still the same?

Today’s world is different.

Innovation spreads like wildfire.

Think about it.

With the rise of technology, anyone can churn out dozens of low-quality eBooks using tools like Chat GPT every day.

So, if everyone is using the exact same strategy—offering a free report with a catchy title—how do you expect to stand out?

It's just like the high boots scenario.

What used to make you unique and grab attention eventually becomes commonplace.

Everyone is doing it.

Everyone is offering a free report promising to double sales.

It's not enough anymore.

It's no longer a surefire way to capture people's interest in a crowded marketplace.

So, what's the solution?

This is where it gets tricky, so pay attention.

The problem is in the packaging of the offer, not the offer itself.

Let me explain.

Do women want to talk and approach men that stand out? Yes, they still do.

Do businesses want to learn how to double their sales? Yes, they still do.

The problem is...you can no longer achieve that by wearing boots or by offering a simple, boring report titled 'how to double your sales'.

That's the tricky part.

Fundamentals' desires haven't changed. The environment has.

In order to succeed, you need to adapt and innovate.

You need to find new and creative ways to package your offer that resonate with your audience and set you apart from the competition.

Forget ‘the boots’ and ask yourself:

What do [insert target audience] want today?

What characteristics are they looking for that no one else is offering?

What do they secretly desire?

What are they repulsed by?

What are my competitors doing, and how can I be completely different?

Same thing with business.

Instead of blindly following trends…

Ask yourself the right questions and you’ll get to the right answers.

That's the key to standing out and thriving in a world saturated with copycat strategies.

Hope this brought value to you.
